If we want a kinder and healthier future, its imperative that kids today are educated about plant-based diets like a vegan diet. And when we found out that one of Scholastic’s book that’s part of Indian CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) Board’s curriculum for class one students described a vegan diet, we had to share it with our readers! The CBSE is a national level board of education in India for public and private schools, controlled and managed by the Government of India. Schools affliated to CBSE Board follow NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) curriculum. Veganism found mention in Scholastic’s course book (Revised 1) of ‘The World Around Us’ which is a series of comprehensive environmental education coursebooks for students.
In a section in the course book that describes plant and animal sources of food, a vegan diet was described to educate kids about the new diet. “Some people do not eat animal product at all not even milk, curd, cheese, butter and so on. They are called vegans” summed up a vegan diet, alongside description about vegetarians and non-vegetarians.
Scholastic Corporation is an American multinational publishing, education and media company that publishes and distributes comics, books and educational materials for schools, parents and children. Educating children about a vegan diet is a progressive step in the right direction and instrumental in creating a healthier tomorrow for future generations.
