Wisconsin cream sales soar; milk fat dairy gains popularity

To see how popular cream, like all full-fat dairy, has become with consumers, just look to surging sales.

That’s thanks in part to redeeming reports of full-fat dairy in a healthful diet combined with all the cooking and baking we’re doing during the pandemic.

As of mid-July, cream sales by volume in the United States have jumped 23{c33c21346ff5e26ab8e0ae3d29ae4367143f0d27c235e34c392ea37decdb8bed} over the same period in 2019, to nearly 37 million pints, according to Lizzie Duffey of the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin. Sales of half and half are up nearly 9{c33c21346ff5e26ab8e0ae3d29ae4367143f0d27c235e34c392ea37decdb8bed} in the United States so far this year.

In Wisconsin, the jump is more dramatic.  Sales of cream have reached 126,000 pints in 2020, up a whopping 38{c33c21346ff5e26ab8e0ae3d29ae4367143f0d27c235e34c392ea37decdb8bed} compared with the same 28-week time period in 2019, Duffey noted.
