    Michigan National Guard soldiers served bad food while guarding U.S. Capitol

    Washington — Soldiers with the Michigan National Guard are complaining about bad food they’ve been served while providing security at the U.S. Capitol, ranging from undercooked meat to contaminated food. The complaints reached members of the Michigan congressional delegation and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, whose office said she called Acting Secretary of the Army John E. Whitley about the problem on Feb. 17 — nearly two weeks ago — as soon as the first reports of the food were received. The governor was assured the problem would be corrected, and guard officials last week told lawmakers the issue had been resolved.

    Whistleblower reveals poor food quality making Michigan National Guard members sick

    (WXYZ) — There’s a disturbing problem facing Michigan National Guard troops guarding the U.S. Capitol – their food. UPDATE: Sen. Peters calls on National Guard to terminate food contract, provide per diem for MI soldiersA whistleblower is telling 7 Action News nearly 75 meals were thrown out Sunday after metal shavings were found, other meals showed up undercooked making soldiers sick. A staff sergeant with the Michigan National Guard, whose identity 7 Action News is protecting, says the problem is not isolated. “Yesterday, for instance, there were 74 different meals found with raw beef in them,” the sergeant said.

    Lawmakers raise concerns over reports of National Guard troops being served ‘raw, moldy food’ at Capitol

    “Recently, there have been several reports regarding the poor quality of food that is being provided to these service members,” the lawmakers wrote. “Michigan National Guard members stationed in our nation’s capital have repeatedly and personally brought these concerns directly to our offices and to the leadership of the National Guard. These reports include meals being provided that are badly undercooked, raw, moldy, and even filled with metal shavings.” The 14 Michigan House members who signed the letter blamed the poor food service on contractors hired to support the federal response to secure the Capitol and said some guardsmen
